There are a lot of things that I require when I move into a new place, and washers and dryers are near the top of the list. I am not yet ready to buy a house, but that does not mean I am not picky about where I live. Right after college I had to take what I could afford, and that often meant that I had to go somewhere else to wash my clothing. This was never fun, and it was always something that stole large chunks of time out of my week.
There are many apartments that did not come with washers and dryers. When you don’t want to pay a lot for a place, there are many things you may have to do without. I make more money now, so I can be more choosey about where I want to live and what I can live without. I’m actually not that choosy, but I do have to have washers and dryers, dishwashers, a bathtub instead of just a shower stall, and a clean and decent place. I don’t think that’s too much to ask for do you?
If you are moving into an apartment that does not have washers and dryers, you should ask your landlord about getting them put in. If this is something you can afford, you should offer to buy the appliances if there are hook ups. You will, of course, take them with you when you move, but this might be a way you can get washers and dryers into your new place. In some cases a landlord will look at this as an improvement and get right on it. In other cases they cannot be bothered, but at least you gave it a shot right?
Washers and dryers are expensive items, but they are also commonly resold items. If you look around you can always find a great set of washers and dryers for a great price. I purchased two sets this away in the past and I was never sorry that I did so. You do have to make sure they are in great working order before you buy though. You don’t want to buy a unit that won’t work. If the seller cannot demonstrate that the set works, you should find someone else to deal with. In many cases, they won’t last forever, but this is a great way to get washers and dryers to last a few years in your current apartment.
