Skiing is a fantastic sport for people of all ages. Not only does skiing offer a great way to exercise, it offers a fun and adrenaline-filled way to enjoy the outdoors during the months that most people would prefer to stay inside during otherwise. One of the best places to ski in the United States (and arguably the world) is Colorado. Colorado ski resorts are simply a fantastic place to spend the winter months or even the occasional winter weekend.
Vail Ski Resort
To many, the name Vail is synonymous with the word skiing. Vail is one of the best known ski resorts in the world, and rightfully so. Vail is not simply one resort; it is a combination of three separate resort areas. Not only does Vail boast some of the best skiing of the Colorado ski resorts, it also offers other tourist attractions as well as fine dining and first-rate accommodations.
Copper Mountain Ski Resort
Situated within close driving distance of Denver, Copper Mountain Ski Resort offers fantastic skiing. Because it is located so close to Denver, tourists are able to spend part of their vacations in the city in addition to the resort. Although it is close to civilization, Copper Mountain Ski Resort has some of the best skiing in Colorado.
Steamboat Springs
Located around three hours outside of Denver is a resort that gets some of the greatest amounts of snow of all the Colorado ski resorts. Steamboat Springs is situated in an area that may seem a tad out of the way compared to Colorado ski resorts like Copper Mountain, but the skiing may be worth the trip. Not only does Steamboat offer fantastic skiing, but it is also generally less-crowded than resorts like Vail and Copper Mountain.
Powderhorn Ski Resort
Situated on the opposite end of Colorado from Denver is Powderhorn Ski Resort. However, Powderhorn is located right outside of Grand Junction, Colorado which does have a small commercial airport. Powderhorn is much less-expensive than Colorado ski resorts closer to Denver, yet offers good skiing for families and beginner to intermediate skiers. Powderhorn even offers several runs for advanced skiers as well.
Since it is located near Grand Junction, there are also other tourist attractions in addition to shopping, world-class golfing, and fine dining. Powderhorn is also located somewhat out of the way (if you are traveling to Denver that is) which makes it less-crowded than other resorts which can be a welcome change if a person is tired of waiting in long lines or wishes to avoid traffic.
