String Lights For Christmas

By: Nicky Patterson

It used to be that you would see string lights around Christmas time, and then they would disappear until the next holiday season. This is not the way things are any longer, and that is because people have realized how practical these things are and how easily they can be used throughout the year. They come up for many different holidays, and can be used when nothing special is going on at all, but you may need some extra light.

I have seen string lights for just about any holiday you can imagine. I have seen lights in the shape of hearts for Valentines Day, pumpkins and skulls for Halloween, and I have seen eggs for Easter. There are also some made for Thanksgiving, and some made especially for birthdays. It seems that you can find string lights for anything. They may have some for weddings for all I know, but I have yet to see those. They are so popular because people seem to love them and they are often very cute. Even better, they are really easy to use.

I have noticed that some people are buying the string lights for more than just special occasions. They have them strung along outdoor areas for the entire year. This is a great way to light areas without having to put in new electrical outlets and lighting fixtures. There are some safety concerns though, as not all of them are made to be outdoor lights. The best places outside to use them for lighting is where they can be under the protection of a roof so that they won’t get wet and short out when it rains or even when it snows.

Some are even using them in the homes when they don’t have lights in certain areas. I have seen some that use string lights in dark hallways and in stairwells where there is no other light available. They can be very dim, so they are perfect for light in the night time for adults and children both so they can see where they are going without turning on the overhead light. When using these in this capacity, remember that they should not be lying anywhere against anything that might be flammable, and if they are something you leave one, but sure to turn them off when you leave the house for any period of time. They can overheat and start a fire.
