Chinese Herb For Cooking And Health

We all know that the use of herbs in China has been around for centuries and they are not only used for cooking traditional Chinese dishes, but also as alternative medicine. Because of the popularity of the use of Chinese herbs as remedies for ailments and diseases, alternative medicine has crossed over to the western countries and many people are testifying about the wonderful effects alternative medicine has brought them.

Some may wonder or doubt the effectiveness and potency of these Chinese herbs used in alternative medicine, but history itself can confirm the health benefits that we can get from them.

Chinese Tradition

Chinese herbs were originally used in cooking Chinese cuisine and the use of them has been a very popular tradition in the country of China. The first herbalist for the Chinese tradition is called “Shennong”, who is a mythical persona who has tasted hundreds of Chinese herbs and pass on his knowledge about the medicinal and poisonous benefits of the plants to the agricultural people.

The first Chinese manual on Chinese herbs and pharmacology is called the “Shennong Bencao Jing” or the “Shennong Emperor’s Classic of Materia Medica” which contains three hundred sixty-five medicines and two hundred fifty-two of them are made of Chinese herbs. It was dated way back in the 1st century C.E. during the Han dynasty and this literature includes prescriptions for specific ailments illustrated by the manuscript, “Recipes for Fifty-two Ailments” that was found in MaWangDui tomb sealed in 168 B.C.E.

Why Chinese Herbs?

Though some of you may still be dubious about the use of Chinese herbs for alternative medicine, we can see from the Chinese people that they live longer and healthier. Along with good diet habits, it is because of their use of rejuvenating herbs. And if you come to think of it, many of the chemically formulated drugs that we could buy from drugstores and groceries were derived mostly from Chinese herbs.

Chinese people believe that if you want a healthier lifestyle, proper balance is needed so you need to have a good diet, regular exercise, meditation, and careful prescription of herbs. These herbs are to help you protect against diseases, restore the body’s proper balance, and aid you in maintaining your optimum level of health. To simply put it, illness or diseases could not penetrate the body if the body is in proper balance and in total harmony.

So never doubt the power of Chinese herbs when it comes to helping our bodies recover from illnesses or when it comes to maintaining our health. These have been proven for more than five thousand years ago, not only to work, but to help us reach our optimum level of wellbeing.
