Types Of Psoriasis Described

Psoriasis is a skin condition that is chronic and affects more than five million people in the United States alone. Characteristics that are typical of this type of skin condition are inflammation, and dry, red patchy skin. You cannot get psoriasis from someone who is suffering from this disease, and you can’t give it to someone. It is usually an inherited disorder, and there are many types you can have.

Plaque Psoriasis

This is the most common type. Among psoriasis sufferers, typically 9 out 10 people have plaque psoriasis. This type of psoriasis is characterized by skin that is red and is usually covered with silvery scales. Having an oval or circular shaped red plaque is typical of this type of psoriasis. They often itch or burn, and can be found on the scalp, trunk, knees or elbows, though they are not limited to those areas. This type is persistent and is not known to come and go.

Guttate Psoriasis

Another type of psoriasis is guttate psoriasis. This type is characterized by small pink or red drops on your skin. The scale on this drop like lesion is much finer than the scales you find when you are suffering from plaque psoriasis. This type of psoriasis can be found on the legs, arms or the trunk. When you have this type, it can cover large areas of your body. This type of psoriasis will usually run its course and may disappear on its own in a few weeks even if you don’t receive any treatment.

Pustular Psoriasis

Pustular psoriasis is a type that is an uncommon form. When you are suffering from this type of psoriasis, your skin will have raised bumps that are clearly defined and are filled with pus. The skin that surrounds the bumps is usually red as well. This type of psoriasis can cause large areas of your skin to turn red. This type is classified into one of a few types. So if you think you are suffering from this type of psoriasis, you may want to do some more research to find out what kind of pustular psoriasis you have.
