Yosemite Camping For An Extraordinary Experience

By: Chris Sussan

Whether you’re someone who loves to camp yearly or someone just new to the activity, Yosemite camping is a must. Yosemite camping offers up some of the best wildlife to be seen along with walking trails and forest ground that is simply breathtaking. The park is known for excellent year round camping, however there are definitely things you will want to take into consideration before leaving for a Yosemite camping trip.

From what to pack to where to hike, there’s a lot to know before hitting the road to your destination. Grab a pen or pencil and some paper to take notes, here’s a few things to think about for your Yosemite camping trip!

What to Pack

Depending on the time of year you decide to take your camping trip, the weather may be cold. Either way, it’s better to be safe than sorry. So of course you’ll want to check what the weather is supposed to be like for your Yosemite camping trip, but don’t fully rely on it. Make sure you pack plenty of gear for both cold and warm weather. There’s nothing worse than a miserable trip because you didn’t bring the right gear.

On the other hand, you’re going to want to bring as little as possible. A little confusing, right? Just keep it simple. Bring a sweater and jacket, some pants and a long sleeved shirt. Bring a pair of shorts and t-shirt along with walking sandals and tennis shoes. As long as you have just one of everything, you should be fine.

Things to Think About

When you’re Yosemite camping, keep in mind that there will be numerous different species of wildlife that you’ll be sharing the park with. It’s important to remember this, as you’ll want to keep all of your food closed up and out of reach of the wildlife. In fact, many campers choose to hang their food from trees while they’re sleeping to keep the bears away from the food.

Another thing to remember is that the park is huge and full of special hiking trails and look out points. Make sure you pick up after yourself when it comes to garbage and belongings, as these things will do nothing but harm the park and its wildlife.

During your Yosemite camping trip, you will want to take pictures of everything you see. Make sure you aren’t using flash directly into wildlife eyes to keep yourself safe. The last thing you’ll want is to make an animal feel like they’re in danger, as that will put you in danger as well.
