By: Mick Thompson

With the arrival of summer people everywhere will be planning to take a summer vacation. Taking a boat trip can be a fun and exciting way to enjoy your summer vacation. There are many advantages to hopping on the boat and heading off to explore new and exciting places.

When taking a boat trip you will have the opportunity to view and experience nature at its best. You will probably see many different animals going about their daily lives. Ducks will be teaching their young how to fish and swim, otters will be playfully entertaining, and deer may be spotted along the shoreline. This is a great way to start the day with a cup of coffee while enjoying the relaxing view.

A boat trip also allows you to spend the night wherever you choose. You can find a quiet, peaceful spot and drop anchor or you can find a marina which offers overnight accommodations. If you don’t feel like cooking there are usually restaurants along the shore which offer places to anchor your boat. These restaurants usually offer a fabulous view of the surrounding water and often have fresh fish on their menu.

Planning Your Summer Boat Trip

It goes without saying that you will definitely want to take along at least one bathing suit. Taking a boat trip allows you to swim pretty much any time you desire. Don’t forget to take plenty of sunscreen since you will probably be spending most of your time outside in the sun. Also, have plenty of towels on hand for those times you need to dry off after swimming.

Plan your route carefully and know what your options are as far as available restaurants. If you plan to cook your meals you will need to make a daily menu so that you will know what food supplies you need to buy. Don’t forget to buy plenty of snacks and a variety of drinks, including a lot of bottled water.

Take a good camera and plenty of film. The chances are very good that you will be able to get a lot of really good shots along the way. Pictures will serve to remind you of your boat trip vacation for many years to come.

The most important thing to remember is boating safety. Be sure to have enough life jackets on board at all times. When the boat is in motion life jackets should be worn and properly fastened. This could very well prevent drowning in the event anybody should fall off the boat. Always have a fully stocked first aid kit to treat all of those unexpected scrapes and bites. Inspect the boat radio before starting the trip to make sure it is working properly. This will allow you to call for help should an emergency arise.

With proper planning and safety precautions your boat trip could very well be one of the most joyful vacations you have ever taken. It will help relieve your stress and allow you to relax and enjoy the scenic beauty of nature.
