Child Day Care Centers Both Large And Small

By: Jamie Preston

There are so many options available to parents within the child day care industry. There are at home businesses that supply day care and there are larger centers that also provide day care. For many parents, it can be a tough decision to make when it comes to what type of child day care center they want for their child.

A Home Environment Or A Big Center

When looking at the choices for child day care, it is a good first step to sit down and evaluate what are important issues to you as a parent. Another consideration is the child’s age.

If child day care is needed for an infant or toddler, what type of environment do you want? In home day cares will have fewer children and may feel more like your own home. This can be a comfort for many parents who want their babies and younger children getting a lot of adult interaction. Infants need to have stimulation in order for their brains to develop so it is imperative that they are receiving attention.

The larger centers can offer parents an environment that has more interaction with other children. This can be a plus for the socialization needs of a child. They will learn to identify social cues at a young age and this is a good first step in learning about how the world interacts.

Child day care centers should all be operating within the standards set by the state. Make sure that whatever place you are evaluating has a license and is up to code. These standards dictate how many children per adults are allowed. Make sure that this is being maintained. The number of infants to adults is much lower ratio than with older children.

Child day care centers should offer some structure within the day. Both large centers and at home centers should have activity areas for the children to play and learn. Again, one of the big differences between the larger centers and the at home child day care centers is the number of children that will be participating.

It is a top priority to always go and visually check on any child day care center that is of interest. A parent cannot fully understand how a child day care center operates unless they actually visit it, and see how it is run.

Also, find out about field trips and other off site activities. Larger centers can often supply children with more of these types of adventures, but it is important to find out how much adult supervision will be supplied during these trips.

Deciding on an appropriate child day care center is a big decision. Take the time to thoroughly evaluate each choice and decide what is important to you in a child day care center.
