Bird Watching And Wildlife Tour

   By: Drey Peterson

Bird watching and wildlife tours are a great way to get back to nature and enjoy some of the simpler things in life. If you have never experienced a bird watching and wildlife tour, book one with a reputable company and you will have a wonderful adventure.

Before You Go On Your First Bird Watching And Wildlife Tour

Before you head out on your first bird watching and wildlife tour, take a little time to research the birds you can expect to see. There are many wonderful books and even websites that offer you descriptions of the birds in your area. You can even visit websites that have audio files so you know what bird calls to listen for as you tour. Doing a little research before you leave will help you to have a much more enjoyable time on your bird watching and wildlife tour. You might even want to carry a small field guide with you on your tour, so that you can make a quick and quiet reference to the birds you see.

It is also important to find out exactly what your tour guide will provide you with during the tour. Make sure that if food isn’t provided you bring your own and also bring extra water, even if your tour company says they will make it available. Invest in a good pair of comfortable shoes and bring along clothes that fit the season.

If your tour company doesn’t provide you with binoculars, you might want to consider buying or borrowing a pair so that you can get a closer look at the birds and wildlife you will be encountering. Another great way to get a good up close look at the wildlife around you is to bring along a camera with a telephoto lens. Always be sure and ask if you can take pictures. Some tours guides feel that the click of a camera can scare away wildlife or be a distraction to others on the tour.

If you are artistic you might find it enjoyable to bring along a sketch pad or journal for jotting down pictures of the wildlife that you encounter. Even if you aren’t good at drawing, you might want to make quick notes of the things that you see.

A bird watching and wildlife tour can be a lot of fun. Take the time to prepare before you leave, and your trip will be that much more enjoyable.
