Solar Swimming Pool Heating For Economy And Environment

By: Chris Sussan

In general, I am not a very big environmentalist. It is not that I don't care, it is simply that I have other priorities that take precedence over the environment. You see, I am a very busy man. Every hour of my day is scheduled, and I don't have time to do things like install wind turbines or solar panels. Nonetheless, some technologies just makes sense. I recycle because it is easy, and I try to buy fewer disposable products with extra packaging. Most of all, I try to use energy saving technologies whenever I can. That is why I installed solar swimming pool heating.

A solar swimming pool heater is remarkably easy to use. For a while, I stayed away from solar pool heaters, because I believed that they would involve installing solar panels. Solar panels, you see, involve a lot of work to put in. You have to install them on the roof, attach several circuits together, and check them to make sure that all of the solar heating cells are functional.

Solar swimming pool heating, by contrast, is quite easy. Basically, the most simple way to have solar swimming pool heating is to get a special solar pool cover. Solar pool covers are a very simple improvement on the basic design. Basically, they have solar blankets built in to one side of them. These solar heaters work by trapping the suns rays underneath the pool. The sun can penetrate the top of the solar swimming pool heating cover, but cannot escape once it is in the pool. Although solar swimming pool heating only really increases the water temperature by a few degrees, this can translate to huge amounts of energy savings.

Of course, there are even more sophisticated kinds of solar swimming pool heating. One of the best solar swimming pool heating designs that I have heard talked about is one that runs some of the water through a solar heating tank. The sun's rays are focused on this water when it is in the tank, and it is then slowly pumped back into the pool. This solar swimming pool heating uses convection currents to slowly rotate the water in and out of the system. Although I'm not sure if it is commercially available yet, I have heard that it has been extensively researched as a design. For now, however, I will keep it simple. I am very happy with the solar swimming pool heating that I have been using.
