In this current environment, the search for jobs can be frustrating. I know some very qualified people who had to really struggle to find a job that suited their needs. Although you can usually find low paying entry level jobs, finding a professional career is getting harder and harder. More people are going through higher education, and the economy is not in good shape. This is why, the younger you can succeed, the better.
As a matter of fact, my current position started with the search for summer jobs when I was 19 years old. I was in college, and was fortunate enough to have parental support to help me along. That meant that I could afford to do a low-paying or nonpaying internship as long as I could find something prestigious to work at. I went on a job search website and found an excellent office job. It was in a major regional distributor's office, and it looked like an excellent opportunity. I would learn about business practices, make some good contacts, and make a little bit of money as well. Even if I ended up filing papers all summer, it would still be great on my my resume.
I did not expect that this would be the end of my search for jobs, but it almost was. You see, the internship worked out better than I had expected. They were pleased with my performance, and they gave me some pretty important duties. At the end of the internship, when I started to search for jobs to work at part time during the school year, my boss surprised me. He offered to let me stay on in a part-time capacity as I worked my way through college. It was a great opportunity. I was able to make a lot of money, and more importantly, get my start in a great career field.
Since then, my search for jobs has always been much easier. Whenever I go to a job website like Monster, I'm able to show that I have a great deal of experience at a young age. If I hadn't done that internship, I would have fallen behind. It would have been a lot harder for me to get high-paying, corporate jobs. Although I have moved around a couple times since then, I have always managed to be able to find good jobs within a month of starting to look.
