There are many times in life when it is important to wear a safety vest. If you are a hunter, you will have to wear one when you are hunting so that other people know you’re a person instead of an animal. You may think that it is very hard to mistake a person for a deer or a squirrel, but you would be surprised how many times people shoot before they confirm what they are seeing. This is an important point even if you’re not a hunter. If you live in an area where hunting is popular, you want to wear a safety vest even if you are not hunting.
When I was a little girl, we lived close to the edge of a forest. Hunting season was a time of year that we all knew very well. Hunting was so popular where I grew up that we often had a few days off of school for the occasion. So many children missed school to go deer hunting that it made more sense to close school rather than teach half full classes. When we would play outside near my home, we had to have on a safety vest, even though we were not hunting. This safety vest was always orange, and identified us as people rather than animals, even though we were not allowed to wander out of our yard.
When I tell friends that I had to a safety vest during this time, and they often look at me in wonderment. Many of them do not come from the same area or same type of area, and the thought of having to wear an orange safety vest is funny to them. Quite often, on the first day of hunting season we were not even allowed to go outside. My mother did not trust that even though we were wearing the safety vest that those hunting in the woods would know the difference. There was always the danger of stray bullets, so we knew to stay close to the house, and sometimes, did not go outside at all.
If you find yourself in this type of situation, you should know that you can buy a safety vest rather cheaply. Though there are more expensive types of safety vest, you can buy a simple orange plastic one that will do the job. They do not have to be expensive, they just have to be bright orange. You cannot buy a safety vest in any other color other than hunter orange if you want to stay safe in this type of situation. Tests prove that this color is most visible while in the woods. This is why all safety equipment for hunters is in this color.
