Christian youth groups are not just about Bible study. Christian youth groups are also about fun. There's nothing better than getting together with fellow Christian teenagers for social recreation. That is why no Bible camp or Sunday school session is complete without the right games for Christian youth groups. Not only can these games be educational, but they are fun too.
Some of my favorite games for Christian youth groups are the Bible study games. I love to have fun as much as the next guy, but if you can learn while you are having fun, it is even better. Many people think that this is how kids learn anyway – they play games. Playing games is one of the best ways to study the Bible. My favorite game for Christian youth groups is Bible trivia. The great thing about playing Bible trivia is that the more you study the Bible, the better you are at it. Our pastor can answer practically any question in the whole deck!
Of course, some of the games for Christian youth groups have nothing to do with study. Christian teenagers can have fun too! That is why charades is such a popular activity in our youth group gatherings. People just can't seem to get enough of it. The more they play it, the more that kids want to play it.
Nonetheless, youth ministries should not get too far away from the essentials. Games for Christian youth groups don't necessarily all have to be about learning the Bible. There is more, after all, to being a Christian than studying the holy Bible. Still, the games for Christian youth groups that do not directly revolve around studying the Bible should at least revolve around fellowship. Bringing the youth closer together in the name of Christ is one of the best things that a Christian youth group can do.
Games for Christian youth groups should work to build teamwork, understanding, and dialogue. The best games for Christian youth groups combine all of these elements along with Bible study to create a seamless whole. That way, the community grows as a whole, and each individual grows in his or her knowledge of the Lord. You can't lose if you have the right games for Christian youth groups. As long as they are not too competitive and make everyone feel included, they will enrich any get together of your youth ministry. They can even bring the parents in for added fun!
