Human Resource Jobs And Employment In HR

By: Pat King

I'm almost positive that no one grows up thinking about working in human resources jobs. Even people who have parents who work in a human resource department want to be a fireman or an astronaut. Working in human resource management, I am always a little bit self-conscious when career day comes around in schools. Although the kids all love to take their parents in to show their friends what their folks do, I could detect a little hesitation in my son Bill. I don't think he really understands what human resources jobs are for, and even if he did, I doubt he would be that excited about it. Nonetheless, I think it is important that he learns a lesson about human resource jobs. He needs to know that there are other kinds of work equally important to being a fireman or a cop.

I know that I never thought about human resources opportunities while I was growing up, but even so, they were surprisingly well designed for the natural skills that I have always possessed. You see, human resources jobs do a very good job of taking advantage of my natural ability to lead and to delegate authority. In my group of friends, I was always one of the leaders. I was not the one who bossed everyone around, but I was definitely the one who made friends through organizing games and activities. I think that a skilled teacher would have seen that I was good at human resources jobs from the time that I was very small. I loved to do reports on things, diving into the minutiae of every last detail. They were never that creative, but they were always very thorough. The fact is that I was made to manage people.

Nonetheless, even I was largely unaware of human resources jobs until college. As a matter of fact, if I hadn't fallen into my first human resources job, I probably never would have known. It was a job working in the school cafeteria actually, And it involved overseeing the student staff as well as cooking. From the first time I got to try it, I was addicted to human resources management. People are so inefficient, and those of us with human resources jobs have the responsibility of making sure that they get their work done. I am a very efficient person myself, so human resources jobs Are natural for me. I can tell who is doing the work, who is not, and what changes need to be made.
