I think it is safe to say that I will never home school my daughter. I like that she will be going to school because I think she needs the social side of the equation as much as she needs to learn. I would never be able to home school her anyway. I know I don’t have the patience, and even though I often thought I might want to be a teacher when I grew up, I have learned that I just don’t have it in me. If I were to home school her it might be a disaster. There are some things I am not good at, but I have to admit I might have enjoyed home school science.
Though I was never good at math, and continue to be baffled by more complicated mathematical equations, I was always good at English, spelling, and science. Science was on of my favorites because I did well, and I understood it all with ease for the most part. If I were to teach home school science, I think I would be able to teach it quite effectively. However, given my lack of patience, I think that might even be a stretch.
Those who do teach home school science have a lot of different ways to present the information. I think I liked science so much because it was often a ‘show me’ type of class rather than a ‘tell me’ type of situation. I have always learned more by doing and see than by reading, even though I read rather well. I think hands on learning is the best type of learning there is. If the material is not interesting, the child is not going to be interested either. This is why I think home school science is probably one of the most fun classes for the children and the parents.
Those who teach home school science will get to do fun things like making a working volcano, looking at bugs under a microscope, and running all types of fun experiments. I always had fun in science, and I think most kids felt the same way that I did. What child would not love to go for a walk and look at leaves rather than sitting in a classroom looking at pictures of those leaves? Science can be a lot of fun, and I would think that if I had to teach something, that would be it. Parents may find that home school science is a great break for both them and their children after a long morning of workbooks and text books.
