If you’ve been to the store recently to purchase a greeting card for someone, you know that the selection seems endless. It would appear once you see all the cards on display that finding a perfect one would be easy. That’s not always the case. Many traditionally made cards simply don’t share the same sentiment that you would like to express. With handmade greeting cards you can ensure that your message comes across loud and clear.
There are numerous ways to create these greetings. The easiest is with a software program, your home computer and a printer. You input the information including the recipient’s name and your personal greeting and print it. Although this is personalized, some would argue that they don’t fall into the category of handmade greeting cards since a computer did the majority of the work.
Artistic individuals will have no problem making these. If you are a painter, you can simply paint an image on the front of the greeting cards. They then become a small work of art and will be as treasured as the gift they accompany. The same is true of photographers. Adding a copy of a picture you took to the front of the card, makes it an instant keepsake.
Don’t fret if you didn’t excel in art class in high school though. One of the most welcomed types of handmade greeting cards is those that have children’s original artwork on the front. If you have some small children in your home, give them a bunch of paper, some finger paints and let them loose. The kids will have a great time getting their hands full of paint and you’ll have instant greeting cards you can give to friends and family members for virtually every occasion.
Another popular route is to order them from a local artist or a craftsperson. As more and more people start their own businesses, items like handmade greeting cards are becoming more readily available. Check out a local art gallery to see if they sell any packages of greeting cards. Quite often struggling artists will offer these to supplement their incomes. Not only will you enjoy giving them but they are also a wonderful way of spreading the work of an up and comer.
Small touches like this can really add to the meaning of any gift. Many people don’t realize how important the card part of a gift is. Even though the actual present clearly demonstrates a fondness for the recipient, the card can fully express how the giver feels. Quite often, long after a gift has served its purpose and been discarded, handmade greeting cards are still tucked safely in a box filled with items that represent special memories.
