If you have ever gotten a greeting card handmade from a child, you know how pleasant and touching and experience it can be. Children have this in innocence, this wonderful affection to them that people often lose in their adult lives. In school, they often make arts and crafts to give to their parents or other family members. Handmade greeting cards are one of the most frequently assembled craft projects because they are so easy. Basically, all they require is a piece of paper and some markers. What could be simpler?
I think a lot of adults would like to give greeting cards handmade, but they are afraid to expose themselves to rejection. You see, when you are a child and give a greeting card handmade to your mother, you know that she will like it. No matter whether or not your handwriting is good, your spelling is correct, or your drawings are beautiful, she will think it is lovely. When you are an adult, however, you have to be held up to higher standards. If you are not a particularly artistic or crafty person, you might avoid giving away a greeting card handmade and buy a Hallmark card instead. It is simpler, guaranteed to be acceptable, and the conventional way to do things.
Still, next time you have a special occasion for someone, you should try giving them a greeting card handmade. If you are afraid to leave it until the last minute, you can make a handmade all occasion greeting card ahead of time. This can be very easy to do. One of the simplest ways to make a greeting card hand made is to use collages from magazines. Basically, anything you find that looks good to your can be used. You cut it out, paste it on some paper, and add your message on. You will have a delightful, quirky, handmade greeting card all ready to give away!
I have seen some people buy greeting cards handmade and give them away as if they made them themselves. Although you can do it this way, it seems to defeat the purpose for me. Having something that looks authentic is wonderful, but having something that actually is authentic is even better. Nevertheless, you can get a start from someone else's work. You can get greeting card handmade paper with the grains and little scraps embedded and use it to give projects a quirky, more homemade feel. This is one of my favorite materials for craft projects.
