Country Pine Furniture Decorating |

I have found that I get a great deal of enjoyment from decorating homes. I have been this way since I was a young girl. We lived in an old farmhouse when I was growing up. My mother never liked plain white walls so she would pick different colors to have in the rooms. I always loved the big kitchen. As with most farm homes the kitchen was large with a space for a big table. This way the farm hands could come in for the noon meal without having to change clothes to go into the formal dining room. The majority of the time the big kitchen was painted a sunny yellow color. She tried green for the walls once, but we all decided we liked the yellow better. Mom discovered that at an early age I liked to paint and was good at it. I became the one that was allowed to help with painting the rooms.
My enjoyment of helping with painting developed into a career. When I was sixteen I was hired by local families to help paint their walls. Soon I was making suggestions about what colors to use as well as accent colors for pillows and wall hangings. When I graduated from high school I went to school to be an interior designer. I like many types of design, but my favorite is still working with country homes, especially old farmhouses. I have found a craftsman that makes country pine furniture. He has his business at his home. He makes many different pieces that he sells during local fairs and craft shows and he also does custom work. I have contracted with him many times to supply the country pine furniture for homes that I am working in.
Two years ago I was hired to refurbish a farmhouse that was one hundred and thirty years old. As with most farm homes the kitchen area and dining areas were the largest spaces. The bedrooms and living room were small. The homeowner decided to create a larger living room by combining it with the formal dining room. There was plenty of space in the kitchen area to have a dining area. I had the woodworker come out and measure a space in the informal dining area for a custom china cabinet and buffet. He was excited about making the pieces and they turned out beautifully. The family does a great deal of entertaining so the woodworkers sale of his country pine furniture pieces have greatly increased due to the number of people that are seeing his custom work in this house. Two people who saw the house have also hired me to refurbish theirs. I am sure the woodworker and I will do future projects together.
