Although getting a cold is not a lot of fun, there is really no sure fire way to prevent getting one. There are things you can do to lower your chances of getting one, but if the virus is in your home, you should almost prepare yourself for it. You can’t prevent a cold once it is in your system, but you can try to keep it from getting into your system in the first place. Nothing is for sure though, but there is no harm in trying. No one wants to have a cold, even one that is mild can be a huge nuisance.
If you want to try to prevent a cold, make sure you wash your hands all the time. Always do so after using a restroom, especially a public one, and also when you have been touching doors, keyboards, or phones used by the general public. If you were to really think about what might be on those things, you may never touch them again. Instead, just think of it as a means to prevent a cold and wash your hands if you have touched something that has been used and touched by a lot of different people.
You can also prevent a cold by staying out of the cold rain for extended periods of time. Well, this sort of works. If you already have the cold in your system you are going to get it anyway. Being in the rain itself does not give you a cold, but it does encourage the cold to get worse or come out very fast. If you have been exposed to someone with a cold, try to stay dry and warm. Again, staying out of the rain won’t prevent a cold, but it may lessen the severity of it once it does come along.
There are other methods that people use to prevent a cold, though I can’t really vouch for any of them. I guess once my child has a cold I resign myself to the fact that I am going to get it. You can try air filters in your home to keep the air cleaner if you want to, or one of the many herbal remedies out there that are meant to prevent a cold. I don’t know if they will work, but it couldn’t hurt to try, especially if you have something important coming up and you don’t want to miss out because you are struck down with a bad cold.
