Non Lethal Weapons

By: Jessie Geralds

When I was young, we never had to lock our doors at night. We never had to worry about leaving our keys and our car, and we had an all-around safe feeling. I do realize that we came upon some things that might have been dangerous, but for the most part life in my small community was safe and secure. I do not live in that same town now, but much of my family still does. They have become more and more concerned about safety, and the days of leaving the home and the car unlocked are long gone. Some of them have even looked into non lethal weapons in order to protect themselves.

Everyone wants to be able to protect themselves, but not everyone likes the idea of having a gun in their home. Non lethal weapons afford to a way of protecting yourself and your family without having to kill someone to subdue them. There are some people in my family who have guns in their homes for hunting purposes, but that does not mean they want to use that gun to shoot another person. They think that non lethal weapons will help them sleep better at night, and will be something they would be willing to use should they find the need to protect themselves.

Non lethal weapons are anything you can use that will not cause death in most cases. A good example of this might be a stun gun, or perhaps a pepper spray. Both of these will incapacitate another person rather effectively, but they should not do any permanent damage to that person. There are some people who already carry these items with them, but they also want to have non lethal weapons in their home that might be handy if someone were to come in the middle of the night. I personally think this is a wonderful idea, and I have something handy in my home as well.

Before you purchase any non lethal weapons to have in your home or carry with you, remember that there are still rules and laws that apply. For example, even though something may be considered non lethal weapons, you may not be able to take it with you on an airplane. In fact, I would be surprised if you were allowed to do so. There may also be certain places where you may not carry these types of weapons, and other places where you must let somebody know that you have them. They are there for your protection, but remember that you still have to follow the rules, even if the ‘bad guys’ are not.
