If you're one of those nuts, who can never seem to get enough of crime shows like "CSI," "Criminal Minds," "Law and order SVU," and "cold Case," then maybe what you need is a personal taste of the field. You heard me right. Our great nation is always looking for a few good individuals to take an interest in law enforcement. As a matter of fact, they need you too. Check out the crime going on these days. In reality, police officers, federal agents, and other law enforcers can't keep up. It's become a priority thing. They have to decide what cases are the most crucial, what inmates are the worst, and which people to assist first. That whole routine you see on movies where the victim is put on hold after calling the police is no joke in some areas. We just need more people to step up to the plate.
Just because you have an interest in law enforcement, doesn't mean you have to rush out and become a uniformed officer or state trooper. There are many fields to examine. Maybe you're interested in being a parole officer, or game warden. Then there's the whole science aspect of it all. As we see weekly on shows like "CSI," scientists are needed for lab analysis, and crime scene investigators are a crucial part of the team. It doesn't simply stop at cruising your town or city in a patrol car. However, this is a major aspect of law enforcement. A great way to get an idea of what police officers do is by watching "Cops." This show is absurdly famous and will always surprise you. I can't believe some of the things I've seen on "Cops." But, it's also imperative to keep in mind that these reality television shows depicting a lifestyle in law enforcement generally show large cities such as L.A. and New York City. I personally know a couple police officers in the small town I reside in and they don't encounter quite as much chaos and danger. Things are a bit more mellow in a smaller setting. Some law enforcement officers prefer this and others don't.
Most jobs and career paths make little change in our society as a whole. You go to work doing something you enjoy or can tolerate in order to receive that paycheck. Now with law enforcement it's a different story. These men and women truly make a difference in our society and help people on a regular basis. Ask yourself if that's something you want in life.
