Hide Speaker Wire Like A Pro |

Having a state of the art stereo system is great. It can completely change not only the sounds emanating from your CD or DVD player, but it can also make a huge difference in how your television sounds. Hooking up speakers to work with all your electronics takes some know-how and it also requires a lot of wire. It’s really important when you do install a new stereo in your home that you hide speaker wire so no one unnecessarily trips or kids don’t play with it.
There are a few different approaches to keeping the wires out of sight. The first is actually very simple and if you have built-in wall speakers you’ve already realized that you don’t need to hide speaker wire because it’s taken care of for you. These can be a bit more expensive than standard speakers so unless you are prepared to pay the price, opt for the more traditional variety.
Many of us place our home theatre systems against a wall or in a corner. If you are lucky enough to have a wall-unit that houses all the different electronics you need, then you can hide speaker wire behind it. Most come with pre-drilled holes for you to run the wires through. This works well and once in place, you really don’t have to worry about the wires again.
If you have all the different units sitting out in the open, you need to try a different method to disguise the wires. Baseboards are really designed to hold carpets in place, but if you pry them off you can hide speaker wire behind them. Just carefully reattach the baseboards being careful not to nail through the wires. If you need to move the equipment at some point, just remove the boards again, and the wires will be free and clear.
Another idea that is very much like baseboards is to utilize ceiling tiles. Many basements have suspended ceilings which consist of metal bars and tiles. You can hide speaker wire in them by running it up towards the ceiling along the wall. Then lift up the tiles to run the wire behind them. All that is visible once you are done is the wire on the wall. It’s a safe approach and works really well.
Whatever you do, don’t leave the wires lying on the floor. They tend to get tangled and this can easily lead to an accident. Things like wire or electrical cords are easy to trip over. Also, if you have a pet in the home, they can be seriously injured if they play with or bite into the wires. Tucking them safely away ensures that all your equipment and everyone in the household stays safe and sound.
