Travel Coffee Mugs - Which One To Choose? |

We are a nation of coffee drinkers. Like most folks I drink coffee every single day. On most days I drink two or three cups. If I were to purchase my daily intake of coffee from one of the many coffee shops around town, I could easily spend several hundred dollars a month on coffee. Like most people, that expense would be unreasonable.
In order to cut down on the amount of money I spend every month on coffee, I have stopped buying fancy coffee drinks from coffee shops and now make all my coffee at home. Lots of times I take this coffee to go and use one of my many travel coffee mugs. Travel coffee mugs are a great investment for serious coffee drinkers. The only problem is that there are so many of them out there in the stores today that is difficult to find a good one.
The best travel coffee mugs I have ever owned came with a Black & Decker coffee maker I bought last year. They are tall metal mugs with plastic screw-on lids. They are well insulated and keep my coffee warm for a long time and the plastic lids screw on tightly in order to prevent any spills. They also have a robber grip that runs around the entire mug so that is easy to hold on to. Most travel coffee mugs I have had in the past do one thing better than the other. One may insulate well but has a lid that leaks easily. Others will have a spill-proof design that does not insulate as well. Sorting through all the various mugs may be a chore but finding a good one is well worth it.
The only complaint I have about the Black & Decker travel coffee mugs is that they are made with metal which makes it impossible to put them in the microwave. Some days I nurse a large mug of coffee for several hours and have to reheat it from time to time. Having travel coffee mugs that are made of metal can be frustrating because they cannot be reheated.
I have tried other travel coffee mugs that are made out of plastic and are microwave safe but they do not seem to insulate as well as the metal ones. I am going to stick with the Black & Decker travel mugs for now. Perhaps one day they will make a self-reheating mug. Now that would be perfection!
