I have my ups and downs when it comes to cooking, but I do know that if it were not for Teflon that we might never eat. I have one pan that does not have it, and I do use that a lot, but the rest of them have to have the substance on them or everything would stick. Many feel like I do, and this does make cooking easier all the way around. One thing that I don’t know what I would do without is the Teflon sheet that I have to use in the oven.
The Teflon sheet is great for cooking just about anything in the oven. Things won’t stick, and if you do burn something, they usually come clean anyway. Cookies slide right off at times, and if they don’t slide off, they always come up without breaking. The Teflon sheet is easy to clean as well, and the days of scrubbing ovenware are long gone for the most part. I do occasionally use glass for things like lasagna, but for the most part the sheets work for everything else.
You do have to be choosy when you buy a Teflon sheet though. I have gone through many of them that have not been what they were supposed to be. They worked well for a while, but they were simply too cheap and the food would stick and the surface would come off. I’m not even sure if they were true Teflon sheets or if they were imitation. I do know that I have had to throw away many of them before I finally found a brand name that worked.
When buying a Teflon sheet, buy the ones at the high end of the price range. The cheap ones are always the ones that don’t work, as you may have suspected. This is one time when taking a short cut does not work, and I can tell you that from experience. The high end Teflon sheet is the one that is going to work, it’s going to work well, and it is going to last a lot longer than anything else. They don’t last forever, but they do give you your money’s worth if you buy the right one. If you have your cooking moments that you would rather forget, much like I have had, you know exactly how wonderful a great pan can be.
