Splendor Of The Sea - A Cruise To Remember

By: Leigh Day

We took our first cruise this year. I have wanted to go on a cruise since I was very young, but my mother was afraid of the ocean. She would always be as far away from the water as possible. My parents couldn't have been more different from each other. My dad was actually born in an old fishing town, and only moved because there was little employment to be had. My mother, by contrast, grew up in the desert and could not abide the ocean. So going on a cruise aboard a boat called Splendor of the Sea with my dad was a dream come true.

I had always thought that cruise ships were pretty tacky, but the name Splendor of the Seas struck me as somehow poetic. I didn't know that much about the cruise, or the Royal Caribbean Cruise line, but I decided to go for it. You see, I am kind of an impulsive person. When I decide to take a trip, it is right at the moment. I will find discount airfares if I can and go wherever the plane takes me.

It was basically the same with the Splendor of the Sea cruise. Although my dad and I had been talking about taking a trip together for some time, we had no idea where we were going to go. The Splendour of the Seas was heading up to Alaska, and I thought that he would like to go with me. Tickets were on sale, so I bought two tickets and called him up. I was taking a big risk but, fortunately, it paid off. Soon we were on board the Splendor of the Sea, and heading out into the ocean.

The Splendor of the Sea cruise was a lot of fun. I didn't think that I would like the cruise ship that much, but I ended up having a great time aboard it. The food was excellent and the view was out of this world. The Splendor of the Sea was a typical cruise ship in most ways – it had a swimming pool, a nightclub, and even on board gambling. Neither of us paid much attention to any of that stuff. We just went out to the deck of the Splendor of the Sea and looked out at the ocean. It was absolutely beautiful – like nothing we had ever seen before. It was definitely a trip to remember.
