Selling Timeshares Can Be Quite Profitable

By: Dale Viviano

We discovered how lucrative selling timeshares was quite by accident. You see, we had bought a timeshare thinking that we would use it more often than we actually did. It was in a beautiful location on a pristine lake in Vermont, but we never actually got up there. Instead, we would usually travel down south, perhaps in the Caribbean or even along the equator. We realize that our share in the timeshare wasn't worth anything to us because we got so little use out of it. That is when I decided to sell my timeshare.

What I didn't realize was that selling a time share can make you a fortune. People are always buying and selling timeshares, so it is an extremely lucrative area for speculation. In general, real estate is a great way to make money, but timeshares are especially so. There is less money involved in a timeshare, which means that you can start selling timeshares with less capital investments. There is a short turnover rate with selling timeshares as compared to a house, and you aren't responsible for doing repairs and maintenance. All in all, it is a much more practical market – especially for the small entrepreneur.

Of course, it is easy to be tricked into buying timeshares from the wrong person. Anyone can represent some place as beautiful just because of the location, but in fact many timeshares are seriously overrated. This is why, before buying and selling timeshares, you have to check out the place very carefully. I have known too many people who have actually been naive enough to buy a timeshare over the Internet based on pictures or the word of the seller. People shouldn't be dishonest when selling timeshares, but it does happen. There is nothing that you can do about it, so you had best be careful.

One of the most important things to be aware of when sewing timeshares is location. In the last couple of years because of environmental problems as well as freak storms, location has become a much trickier issue. It used to be that selling time shares on the beach netted you a lot of money, but nowadays beach front property is threatened in many places. Although for now you can still buy or sell a timeshare on your average beachfront community, it may not be long until this changes. Coastal property may become devalued because of rising tides, causing safe, inland property to be worth more.
