Second Hand Books Can Help You Escape

By: Jean Houston

One of the biggest joys is to find some time to read. Though this might seem like a simple pleasure, there is just something wonderful about forgetting the world around you and going into someone else’s world, even for a few minutes. Though drugs and alcohol might offer the same sort of respite, they certainly are not good for the body. Reading is good for the mind, body, and soul. The problem for some is that books are often pricy, and an avid reader might have to spend a lot of money to keep up with their habit. This is where second hand books come into play.

There are a lot of these books out there, and I tend to buy both new and second hand books because I like to read a lot, but I don’t like to spend a fortune on it. I like new books for the obvious reasons, but there are many great second hand books out there that are just as good as the new. In fact, many of the ones that I fall in love with and must read over and over again are the ones that I have bought used. I love to find a place that has a lot of used books and pick up as many as I can carry.

Second hand books can be found in many different places. There are bookstores that deal in used book only, and this is a great place to start. There are also places like rummage sales and thrift stores that often have a great selection of second hand books, and they are often very cheap. You can usually find a library sales in your community if you look. This might only happen once or twice a year, but they are great sources for good books if you can find them.

Collecting second hand books can be overwhelming though, because it is very easy to run out of space. The best thing to do is to have a box aside for those books that you read but decided that you don’t want to keep. Once the box is full, they can be donated to any place that might accept second hand books, or you can even give them to someone in your life that loves to read. This might save money too, as you can share books with each other and won’t have to spend so much on buying them.
