Plastic Cups For Drinking Your Favorite Drinks

By: Alex Richardson

My mother recently visited and commented on the fact that I have plastic cups in my kitchen. Don’t get me wrong, I have many glasses and mugs that we use on a daily basis. However, it can be quite a pain to wash them over and over again. My daughter has the bad habit of using at least 10 different cups in one day. I cannot seem to break her of this habit, and she seems to have something against using a cup more than once. As you can imagine, this just adds more work to my day.

I decided that I would like to buy some plastic cups one day when I was frustrated with having to wash cup after cup. I know that my dad keeps plastic cups in his house, and when my daughter visits this is what he uses to give her a drink. I didn’t think there would be anything wrong with me having these as well, as it would take a lot of work out of my day. Things have worked out great, even though I am worried about the volume of waste she is creating.

We also have plastic cups in our bathroom. For some reason, she chooses to use these once over and over again. I guess I just don’t understand her reasoning. Whatever the case may be, these plastic cups seem to last a very long time. I quite often find a cup sitting on the edge of the counter in the bathroom, and she tells me that if I throw it away to be very upset. I don’t understand why she cannot use the same glass twice in the kitchen, but saves the same plastic cup to use time and time again in the bathroom.

Plastic cups have always been convenient, but I hope soon enough I will have to buy them as often. As great as they are, I do worry about them piling up to the landfill. However, until I get break her of her bad habits, I will have to grin and bear. Perhaps I should give up the plastic cups and buy her some paper ones. At least those are biodegradable, and can be crushed more conveniently in the trash. I don’t think buying plastic or paper will make much difference to my mother, and she has always been very old-fashioned. To her washing sixteen cups a day is no big deal, but to me, it’s a hassle I can live without.
