Each and every month of the year has its own birthstone. This usually means little to men, but to women it typically dictates at least some of the jewelry they’ll wear. For someone born in April, they get to wear rings and earrings with a diamond. Those who celebrate birthdays in July can often be seen sporting a ruby. October birthstones include opals and tourmaline. Whatever the month, there’s a beautiful stone to represent it.
When a girl is little she’ll likely want to wear some costume jewelry that has a stone in it representing the color of her birth month. These “unofficial” stones are generally worn by the younger bunch and the colors are actually brilliant and very appealing. The October birthstones that fall into this category are pink, while the stones for those born in March wear are usually blue. There’s certainly no rule that states you have to wear the color of your birth month but it’s a fun idea.
As a woman matures she’s likely to become more interested in the gemstone that is reflective of her birth month. The real exception is that any woman, whether she was born in April or not, is going to love diamonds. When looking at gemstones it’s important to know the type of piece you want and how to best showcase your birthstone.
Earrings, rings and pendants are just a few of the examples of jewelry that can be worn with birthstones as a showpiece. For October birthstones an opal ring is beautiful. The opal is a magnificent birthstone in that when light hits it, it seems to come to life. The stone itself is an off white color but it does burst with a brilliant beauty when worn on the hand.
That’s not to say that this unique stone doesn’t work well in earrings. In either a stud of dangling setting, these October birthstones are wonderful. They fit in well in either silver or gold settings for those who have a strong preference.
The tourmaline is another beautiful stone that represents this early fall month. One of the unique features of this one of the October birthstones is that it comes in many different colors. The stone itself is representative of the month, but a woman can choose which color of the tourmaline she most prefers. A very nice way to display this stone is in a ring in which the gemstone is a larger cut. This is sure to draw the attention of everyone as it sparkles in the light.
Even if a woman can’t really claim to be an October baby, she can still wear jewelry with these beautiful gemstones. It would be a fashion crime to suggest that just because you aren’t a Libra or a Scorpio that opals and tourmalines are off limits. After all, rules like this are meant to be broken.
