The sad thing about the town that I grew up in is that you cannot find a mullet wig anywhere. What makes that sad is that you see plenty of people with a mullet, but they are most definitely not wearing a wig. Many of the guys I grew up with had this type of hair style and they still have it. Perhaps they don’t realize how passe it really is. I never knew there was a name for it, I just thought it was ridiculous. You either have long hair or you don’t. The in-between look dubbed ‘the mullet’ is never a good fashion statement by any means.
A mullet wig, on the other hand, can be a lot of fun. I have seen a lot of these in the stores, and I can’t imagine why those who have real mullets cannot put two and two together. There are varying degrees of mullet. Some are almost a regular hair cut while others are outrageous. I remember one guy who had hair in the back that went almost the whole way down his back while the sides and front were trimmed so short it was almost a buzz cut. It was all I could do not to laugh when I saw him. He thought he was sexy, and perhaps that was what made it all the more hilarious to me. I don’t think I have seen a mullet wig that was as long as his real hair.
The mullet wig seems to be very popular for Halloween. I guess makes sense. Though the mullet wig is not as scary as perhaps a serial killer or a monster, it certainly is very scary in a whole other way. I remember my husband came home from a bad hair cut. He had his baseball cap on his head and would not take it off. When I finally saw what the stylist had done to him, I told I hoped that was a mullet wig. He assured me that she had indeed given him the horrible cut, and I got out my own scissors and cut the offending parts off. Thankfully, I didn’t have a hard time fixing it.
If you want a mullet wig for any reason, you may have to special order online if you cannot find one around Halloween. I have seen some in the stores, but I have seen many more online. I can’t remember the name of the site I found, but there was one that had nothing but different types of mullet wigs and other infamous hairdos. I think I found it when I was looking for an Elvis wig. I found what I was looking for and had a great time looking through the site, but I did not end up buying anything. However, if I ever need a mullet wig or need to look like Elvis, I know it’s out there.
