When people hit mid life, they may have what is referred to as a crisis. It’s not something anyone can put a time limit on, and it’s not even something anyone can predict. You may or may not have one, or you may have one and not even realize it. Most people know it though, and even though they may think they have a great life and have lived the way they have wanted to, it doesn’t mean it won’t happen. It can be a confusing time, and many people make huge decisions during this time that perhaps they shouldn’t make.
I have seen people in their twenties and thirties go through what might look like a mid life crisis. Perhaps it happens earlier for some people. The pace of life has certainly picked up, so it makes sense that it might happen earlier, or perhaps even more than once. The most common time is mid life, however, and you may not be ready for it when it comes. I don’t think anyone is ready for it, and I don’t think many people welcome it with open arms.
Mid life is often when we suddenly begin to face the fact that we might not live forever. We all know we are going to die, but that doesn’t mean we really think about it. If we did, we might all go insane. When mid life comes though, this thought might start to pop up more and more, and many ask themselves, “What have I done with my life?” The question can be a daunting one, and we often uncover dreams, wishes, and goals that we have long forgotten because life has gotten in the way.
If you find yourself in the midst of a mid life crisis, take some time to spend with yourself. Don’t make rash decisions that you might regret later. Some leave their spouse during a mid life crisis, and they then later regret it. They may leave a great job, or blow their savings on world travel just because they feel panicked about what they want to do but have no gotten to do yet. No one can tell you what is right or wrong, but just make sure you really think about what you are doing before you do it so there are no regrets when the crisis passes. You should remember that it will pass.
