It seems like in my lifetime, I have seen all of the classics of fashion go the way of the dinosaurs. Men's hats, for example, used to be the definition of style. Every man would have to wear a hat on formal occasions. No more. Most people don't own a single hat except for their baseball caps. The same goes for suits. There are some areas where professionals don't even wear sports coats on most days! That is why it is good to know that a few things haven't changed. Mens watches, for example, are still as popular as ever. To this day, high-quality watches for men are still seen as a sign of status. If you are an executive or any person of importance, you cannot be seen without one.
I have been wearing a Bulova mens watch for the past several months, and I get compliments on it everywhere I go. Whether I am at the drugstore or the opera house, people notice my mens Bulova watch. I don't do it for the attention, but I certainly don't mind it. I feel like, if you are a person of means and good tastes, you deserved compliments. My mens watch is nothing but a symbol in and of itself, but the symbol indicates something important – something that should be respected.
Of course, if you wear a low quality mens wrist watch, I would assume that people would sneer at you. I have a friend who has a mens Swiss Army watch. I have never seen anything more tacky. It may look like a stylish item for a Boy Scout, but he is a grown man, and someone who could afford something of a higher caliber. Nonetheless, he claims that it enhances his style. He says that the mens watch makes him look hip, young, and fashionable. Why would you want to look hip and young when you are in your middle age? It sounds like a pathetic midlife crisis to me! I have half a mind to take that mens watch from him and hide it!
To me, the worst men's watches are the sports watches that seems so popular. I can understand wearing a diver's mens watch if you are going to be doing some form of vigorous physical activity. After all, you would not want to damage your more formal timepiece. Nonetheless, wearing that kind of mens watch with a suit is a ridiculous fashion statement. I can't believe how many intelligent people dress like that!
