Jet Ski Rentals - What You Should Know Before Your Next Trip To The Lake

By: Leigh Day

Taking a trip to the lake is super fun in summer time. There’s so much to do there including sunbathing, swimming and riding on a jet ski. If you are a regular at the lake, you may already own your own jet ski. If you don’t there’s still a way for you to enjoy this fun water sport without having to invest too much money. Jet ski rentals are the way to go for the weekend vacationer who wants to hit the water in style.

If you are traveling to a lake that is focused on tourists, you are likely to find a few vendors offering rentals on site. Most of them have hourly, daily and even weekly jet ski rentals. This is great if you’re only planning on staying the afternoon. It’s very convenient as well, particularly for people who don’t have a method of hauling the jet ski up to the lake.

It’s a great idea to check before you leave if there are indeed on site rental shops. If you are unsuccessful in finding any, you can always rent one at home to take with you. The best places to look for jet ski rentals in an urban environment are at motorcycle or snow mobile shops. They typically rent out many kinds of motorized equipment and may have a few jet skis ready to go.

In order to rent one there are some qualifications. You do need to be a licensed driver. Even though you don’t technically always need to have a driver’s license to operate a jet ski, the rental outlets do require it. You’ll also have to purchase insurance through them. This ensures that should an accident occur, the machine and you will be covered. In addition, have a major credit card at the ready. You are going to have to pay not only the rental fee but also a deposit will be held against the card.

Perhaps you have a compact car and the idea of getting it from the rental place to the lake seems impossible. If you know someone with a truck heading to the same lake, ask them to carry it for you. If that’s not possible, you can always inquire about trailer rentals. Many stores that have jet ski rentals also rent out trailers. The cost of renting it is minimal but you will need to have a trailer hitch attached to your vehicle before you go.

The majority of vendors offering these rentals will also supply any additional equipment that you need in order to operate the jet ski. Jet ski rentals typically include a life vest which is incredibly important to wear. Many people forgo the vest because they think it doesn’t look cool. Don’t make this mistake, wear the vest and stay safe.
