How To Promote Your Music The Easy Way

By: Daryl Peters

New bands often have the same problem. They play and rehearse, but they don’t know how to get people in the door. If a band is good, they won’t have too many problems in the long run, but anyone can speed things up if know what to do. If you have a band and you have been working your butt off, but can’t seem to get the crowd you think you deserve, perhaps you don’t know how to promote your music. This is not as hard as it seems, but it does take a little work, and sometimes, a little money.

My husband is a musician, and I have seen what works and what does not. Though different things work better in different areas, there are some things that seem to remain true anywhere. He was in bands in a big city, and has been in smaller areas where it might seem to be harder. However, being in a big city does not necessarily mean this is easier. You have to know how to promote your music to the area you live in no matter what the size. Some tricks work everywhere though, and as long as you have something great to offer, the people are going to come.

One great way today to know how to promote your music is to use the Internet. Many look online for information about local bands that they want to go see. They may not have heard of you, but if you have a clip of your music online where they can find it, they may just show up to hear it live. Knowing how to promote your music online is much easier than it was before. Now that Myspace and YouTube are very popular, you just have to get your music on there. Someone will find you.

Offline, it might cost more money when deciding how to promote your music. Most bands have success with recording an album, but not everyone has that much money. Instead, record one song, and burn some single CDs to give away at shows. This will be a loss of sorts, but in the end it will be a gain. One person will play the CD for another person, and that person will play it for someone else, and well, you get the picture. After doing this once or twice, most bands find their crowds are increasing and they are making more money.
