I had not expected helicopter rides to be exactly my kind of fun. You see, I don't like having my feet leave the ground. I fly because it is the most convenient way to get from here to there, but that doesn't mean that I like it. Why would I go take a helicopter tour? The idea of helicopter tours scares the pants off of me. Being up there, 1000 feet above the ground in a rickety little gyroscope is far from appealing. Up until my recent trip to Manhattan, I couldn't have even pictured myself taking a helicopter ride.
Nonetheless, my brother-in-law has a way of talking people into doing strange and crazy things. He is a bit of a thrill seeker himself, and he always has been. He has worked as a stunt man, a test driver, and a tour guide in some of the most dangerous places in the world. Nowadays, he has settled down a little bit. He does not do the crazy things that he used to, But he still feels the need to cut loose now and then. That is why he decided to take a helicopter hire, and decided that I was going to come with them.
I don't know how he talked me into taking a helicopter ride. I think it was over drinks, and I think I said maybe. Nevertheless, he interpreted that maybe as a yes. Soon, he had chartered helicopter rides for me, my sister, and himself the very next day. Helicopter rides Manhattan allowed us to look all over the city, and he thought it would be a great way of getting to really experience New York from a new angle. It wasn't an angle that I wanted to see, however.
If I had known how much fun helicopter rides are, I doubt I would have had such trepidation. It was really a blast! The helicopter ride had it all. Sure, it was a little bit scary at times, but the view was spectacular. Once I stopped thinking about the fact that I was dangling above the earth, I was able to relax and really enjoy myself. I don't know why helicopter rides are not more popular, but they definitely should be. I can't think of the last time I had such a good time. I hope he doesn't realize how much I enjoyed helicopter rides. Next, he will be pressuring me into hang gliding.
