When I first found out that we would have to get used bridesmaids dresses, I was horrified. It was, after all, the most important day of my life. Like all brides, I wanted everything to be perfect. Used formal wear, although a practical idea, is seldom viewed as glamorous. I felt that if anyone found out that we were using used bridesmaid dresses, I would simply die of embarrassment. I wanted everyone to believe that we had spared no expense on the wedding. I did not want them to know how poor we were.
It was not the first time I had had to resort to a used dress for a fancy occasion. During my prom, I had worn a used evening gown. The difference, however, was that my used prom dress was an heirloom. It had been handed down to me by my mother, you see. The used bridesmaid dresses were something different altogether. They meant that we would not be able to set up the color scheme of the wedding. We would have to see what the store had to offer. If any of the dresses required significant alteration, it would be obvious that we had resorted to used bridesmaid dresses. I hoped and prayed that things would still work out somehow.
As it turns out, my prayers were answered. The store offered the perfect used bridesmaid dress. It was a pale blue that virtually glimmered in the light. I knew that it was a used bridesmaid dress, but you could hardly tell. All of the used bridesmaid dresses were spotless. They were gorgeous. They were every bit as nice as anything I could have imagined. The only difference was that they cost a significant bit less. I was elated.
The best thing was that the used bridesmaid dresses were in exactly the right color. I had always wanted to have that shade of blue. My mother had disagreed, and we had argued about it. When it turned out, however, that we would have to use used bridesmaid dresses, we were forced to choose from what they had available. The dresses that they had available almost perfectly matched my vision for the wedding. Things could not have turned out better! No one even suspected that they were used bridesmaid dresses. They looked so glamorous and fresh that it was impossible to tell. To say that it went off without a hitch is to understate things. It was glorious!
