If you own a round table, you should invest in a round table cloth. You would think that I shouldn’t need to tell anyone this but you would be surprised by how many of us try to get away with mixing things up when it comes to our dining room linens. Though using your old table’s linens might be cost effective, it isn’t the best way to go.
I learned this the hard way when I decided to purchase a round dining room set. I love the idea of everyone facing each other during dinner and family get-togethers. The great thing about this arrangement is that there is no head of the table and no awkward seating. A round table cloth would have been the perfect addition to my new dining room set.
You may wonder why on earth I would put my old, rectangular linens on my new furniture. The answer is two fold. First of all, I’m inherently cheap. I didn’t want to spend the money on a round table cloth when I already had linens that I thought would work out fine in my dining room.
After putting a few hundred dollars into the furniture the last thing I wanted to do was to crack my wallet back open to purchase a round table cloth. I was already a little drained from watching my funds disappear into a dining room set. The last thing that I wanted to do was spend another penny.
I wound up spending more than anyone would anticipate because I didn’t invest in the round table cloth. Actually, I spent an awful lot more as a result of being so cheap with my home’s décor but there is another reason aside from general cheapness stopping me from making the simple purchase.
My old table cloth was absolutely beautiful. I genuinely loved that linen and I hated the idea of letting it go. I was more than happy to kiss the table and chairs goodbye but the linens were really special to me. In a way, I just didn’t want to start all over with a new, round table cloth.
Of course, I discovered that the lovely old table cloth was going to be my downfall. People wound up tripping on the extra material surround their feet and one particularly clumsy guest actually pulled the linen away from the table, toppling my fine china in pieces on the floor.
If I would have invested in a round table cloth I wouldn’t be in the market for a new set of china. I’m sure that a new set of linen would be much cheaper.
