What I was a little girl I used to watch my grandmother and my aunts put together a quilt. They used all sorts of different quilt fabrics, and each quilt they made with look different from the others. I was often fascinated when they had the quilt out in the living room on a huge frame that was used for the purpose of tying the quilt together. Even though I was too young to participate, they would always allow me to sit with them and watch. My grandmother no longer works on quilts, but one of my aunts still does.
This aunt ask me if I would like a quilt as a wedding gift. I had seen some of the quilts she had done recently, and I enthusiastically told her that that would be a wonderful gift. She asked me what kind of quilt fabrics I would like her to use, and I told her that I trusted her judgment. The quilt fabrics she had chosen for a recent quilt were quite beautiful, and I told her she could use anything she wanted, but something done in purple might be beautiful.
When I got my quilt from her I was not disappointed by her choice of quilt fabrics. She had chose quite a few modern looking designs to incorporate into the quilt. I’m not sure where she gets her quilt fabrics, as I have never seen many of the patterns she had chosen for my quilt. All I know is that when I opened up my new quilt at my bridal shower I was amazed at how beautiful that quilt was. The last time I saw her she asked me how my quilt was holding up. When I told her it was still beautiful, she told me she was amazed that it was holding together.
If you are looking for unique quilt fabrics, you may just have take some time to search through any of the craft or fabric stores in your area. I have seen many great ideas, and you just have to learn how to match different colors and styles to choose the quilt fabrics that will work best for your new project. You can also get quilt fabrics put together in a bundle, and this takes the guesswork out of it. If you find packages of already cut quilt squares, just look through to see if there’s anything there that you would like. Even if you don’t find something you want to take home, you may find inspiration to work with.
