Though things are not as bad as they used to be for me, there was a time in life when I missed a lot of work because of extreme pain associated with my period. Though every woman has some sort of cramps, discomfort, and pain during their period, I was almost incapacitated for an entire day at least one day out of each month. It seemed that no matter what I did for menstrual cramp relief nothing every worked for me. I would lose one day of work each month because I could barely walk due to the pain and the fatigue.
Some women don’t need much of anything for menstrual cramp relief. Many of my friends can pop a Tylenol and they are fine for the rest of the day. Oh how I envy them. There seemed to be no amount of medication of any type that would offer me much menstrual cramp relief. I have to find other ways to cope with my pain, and even then, I would still miss work because of it. My mother told me that she had the same problem in her teens and twenties, and that the problem would lessen as I got older. Thankfully, she was right.
One of the best forms of menstrual cramp relief came in the form of a heating pad. I’m not sure why applying heat to the area helps, but it does. You can use a regular heating pad for this, but remember you should never lay it against your bare skin. Always have a shirt or a towel in between your skin and the pad when in use or you run the risk of burning yourself. You can now find disposable pads in the stores that will adhere to your skin. I have found that these are wonderful and offer the right amount of heat for menstrual cramp relief and any other type of pain you may be having.
Some people with heavy cramps find that they have to use a variety of things to feel comfortable. When I was younger, it was a mixture of pills, rest, and a heating pad for my menstrual cramp relief. My friends would often be shocked when they saw what I had to do to feel human. Luckily, that pain has eased some, and I no longer have to miss an entire day or two of my life each month. If you find that what you are doing for menstrual cramp relief is not working for you, you can try to add a few things to what you already do. You may want to talk to your doctor to see if something else is going on. I know that my extreme periods are due to a condition, and yours may be as well.
