Designer Wedding Dresses - A Personal Story |

I am fascinated with people. I have spent my life working with people in different capacities of social work. I enjoy watching people grow and develop. I like watching people achieve goals that they thought were out of their reach. In many ways watching my clients grow and develop is the same as watching my children mature. Each of them is so different from the other, yet they share the same belief systems and values.
My daughter and I have had a love hate relationship through her teenage years. I do not feel it was much different than most mother and daughter relationships, and like my relationship with my own mother we have become very close now that my daughter is an adult. She has always been fascinated with weddings. She loves going to weddings at our church, even if she does not know the people she used to beg to be able to sit in the back of the church and watch the bride walk down the aisle. She would buy bridal magazines to look at the designer wedding dresses. For her birthday one year she requested to go to the bridal show so she could see the models in the different designer wedding dresses.
She was not dreaming about or visualizing her own wedding, she just liked to see all of the decorations and gowns and the cakes that people chose. Through the years I realized that she had quite an eye for details and that her ideas about wedding plans and designer wedding dresses were quite good. I did not know if these skills were lead to anything, but I did like her since of style. When she graduated from high school she signed up for general education courses at the local university. She stayed at home because the commute was less than thirty minutes from our house to the campus.
One day she came home from classes very excited. She had been looking in the windows at designer wedding dresses when she noticed a help wanted sign. She went in to apply for position and was hired. She will be helping customers try on wedding dresses and bridesmaid’s dresses. She will help with measuring and placing orders. She is so excited about this new job. She immediately went to the fast food establishment where she has been working since she was sixteen and gave her two week notice. She thinks she got a job from heaven because she will be surrounded by bridal wear every day. I do not know if it will lead to a full time career, but for now she is extremely happy.
