If you have an interest in serving the public, you may want to consider a career in law enforcement. I have a cousin who now works for Homeland Security, but he started out as a police officer. Though he had his law enforcement training in both the private sector as well as the military, he knew that is was something he wanted to do, and it didn’t matter what he had to go through to get there.
The best thing about going through law enforcement training is that it will tell you if you really want to get into it or not. Many people have the best of intentions but find out it is just not for them. It takes a special personality to be able to cope with the job, and no matter how well meaning you are, you may find it is not for you. You may even want to talk to some local police officers in your area so they can tell you a little about what it is like before you even being law enforcement training.
You may even want to talk to someone at the police station about what law enforcement training might entail, and what your career options might be once you are done. If you live in a small community and don’t want to leave, you have to consider that there may not be many times when a position will open up. If you want to be a police officer, you may have to move around a lot before you settle into a job that you might want to occupy for a long time to come. They may even be able to tell you where most people who go through law enforcement training end up once they graduate.
Remember to talk to your family before you go into law enforcement training. They should at least be aware of what you want to do, but also remember they may try to talk you out of it. Despite that, you should really let them know so they support you even if they don’t like it. You will find that law enforcement training might be tough, but if you really want to do it, you will want the support of those who love you to help you get through it. You may find yourself wanting to give up, and you may also find it is hard on your mind and not what you thought it was. You might be surprised to find that support and encouragement from your family is what lifts you up and helps you complete your dream.
