Cotton Candy Machine - Let The Fun Begin!

By: Leigh Day

I have always been mystified about how a cotton candy machine works. I guess it’s pretty simple, but there is something mysterious about how that machine can turn a cup of color sugar into a large, puffy gob of yumminess. Ok, so perhaps that’s not the most adult way to describe it, but who doesn’t feel like a little kid when they have a bag of cotton candy in their hand? The best thing is that you can get a machine to make it at home if you want to.

A cotton candy machine seems to use forced hair as a way to get the sugar to turn into floss. Perhaps that is why it is called fairy floss in other countries. I don’t know much more about it though, and it might not even have anything to do with air. What I do know is that they can put a cup of sugar into a cotton candy machine. They turn it on, and insert a paper stick and come up with a cloud of candy that makes almost anyone’s eyes light up with delight.

I have seen a cotton candy machine you can get for children, but I don’t know how well it works. It must work to some extent or I would imagine it would not be on the market any longer. You could get one even if you don’t have a kid, or you can get one for special occasions like birthday parties or other events where children will be present. A cotton candy machine might not be something you want your children to play with everyday, but it can be something you get out on a rainy day for some fun.

Perhaps next time I go to a carnival or event where they have a cotton candy machine I will ask how it works. It's one of those things that I don’t think about until I see it, but then I always seem to forget to ask someone. I don’t think anyone would mind telling me how a cotton candy machine works, as it’s not a huge secret. It’s just a matter of finding someone with the time to explain. Cotton candy is pretty popular, and they always seem to be busy making more. Though funnel cakes and other goodies are pretty popular with guests, I don’t think anyone will dispute that cotton candy is a fair and carnival favorite.
