Getting contact lenses was one of the best things that I have ever done for myself. Although I wasn't keen on the idea of sticking my fingers in my eyes several times a day, I very quickly adapted and fell in love with having them. I had never liked wearing my glasses. I'd wear them for driving, simply because I needed them. But, once I exited my car, I left them behind. The world was a bit blurry to me for many, many years. Suddenly, I had contacts and the world looked completely different. I was noticing things about the world that I'd never noticed before. I loved it.
After a year of wearing contacts, I wanted to see what life would be like with different colored eyes. I had always had dull green eyes. I wanted to know what it would be like to see the world with bright blue eyes. And so, with that desire in mind, I looked into getting colored contacts. Sure, they were a bit more expensive and my insurance would not pay for any form of colored contacts. Nonetheless, I decided to try it, just for the heck of it. After ordering them, a week later, I was looking at a new person in the mirror. I was looking at the world from behind blue eyes now, and I loved it. I had chosen a very bright pair of colored contacts, but they looked very real as well. It didn't take people very long to notice my drastic change and everyone commented on how wonderful this new look was. My boyfriend though, said that he would miss staring into my green eyes, though he knew that this was not a permanent change.
Getting colored contacts was sort of a craze for a while. People were changing their eye colors daily for a while. Companies were making some very unique colored contacts as well that some people absolutely loved. I waited on a customer one time, who had red colored contacts in her eyes. It was entirely too creepy and I found myself not even wanting to look at her. I've seen some people get black colored contacts as well which is still very strange, in my opinion. But, what makes us all different is our choices and sense of self that we all have. If someone wants to wear colored contacts that make them look very different, then more power to them. Just don't get offended when I refuse to make eye contact with you.
