Countless television shows concerning crime grace our TV sets on a nightly basis. What is this obsession we have with criminals and their twisted ways of life? Now days it's more popular to view and learn about the true stuff than it is the fiction. Heck, even when it is fiction, they strive to keep it as realistic as possible. The crimes we see happen on shows like "CSI" and "Law and Order SVU" are quite plausible. That's pretty scary stuff. The truth of the matter is we know things like this occur all the time in our very own society. I guess it would be wise of us to pay close attention to the media and stay informed regarding sex offenders and local inmate information. This way we can be in the loop if someone is living/lurking in our own neighborhood.
You may wonder why anyone would investigate past criminals and/or current inmate information. Well, other than a simple interest in the subject, you may wish to do it for simple reasons of caution and awareness. Let's say a man who killed his entire family was residing in your neighborhood many years ago. Now, a few decades later he is out of prison on some fluke parole deal. Wouldn't you want to be notified it this man was released? The cool part is that inmate information online can give you this data. Suddenly you realize that he's moving back on your block. I know that you'll want to be wary of his presence. Any sane individual would.
Another great advantage to having constant access to America's prison and punishment records concerns sex offenders. I think it's safe to assume that we all want to know where these guys are and what they're doing. Sadly there are oodles of them loose in our society, and many of them will never reform. However, with state inmate information you can often see which ones are still imprisoned and which ones are out and about. A great idea is to do a local search and find out which sex offenders live in your town, city, or neighborhood. At least do a 10 mile radius search. I found out that four live within ten miles of me. It's pretty frightening when you have children, but definitely better to know whom to watch out for.
