Many moms tell me that when they decided to have children they thought about having babies to cuddle, but the reality of older children didn’t hit them until they got there. They love their children all the same, but they miss the days when the baby would just lie there and cuddle with them, and then go back to sleep. I guess I was a little different, as I always thought about the days when the child would be older and we could communicate better, do more things together, and have a special bond. I couldn’t wait for my little girl to get out of her high chair, but I guess I was one of the few among the other moms I know.
I guess the high chair was something that I always hated to use, but it did come in handy for more than just eating. It was easy to clean up, and they are essential for those early days when a child learns to eat on their own. I must have taken hundreds of pictures of my little girl in her high chair. The messes she made were unbelievable, and of course I wanted to be able to torture her with them when she gets older. What are moms for, right?
One mistake I made when picking out her high chair was thinking the one I got would be easy to clean. I had not been around a baby in a while and I had forgotten how thoroughly messy they can be. She left no spot on the high chair untouched. I always thought about wiping up the tray and nothing more. I had to spend time each day wiping down the entire thing because of her messes, and the chair I chose was hard to clean. If I ever have another baby, that will be something I remember for sure.
Though ease of care is one very important thing to remember when choosing a high chair, but there is something else that is more important. Some have problems and are recalled, and there are times when they are not pulled from the shelf. Parents of young children have to keep an eye on recalls for everything they have for their baby. The high chair I had was recalled before we bought it and we didn’t know it. We had to send in for a kit to fix it once we realized it was a recalled unit. Had I known, I would have bought something else.
