Air travel has becomes somewhat of a pain lately. I'm sure you've noticed with all the security measures in full effect when you proceed to your gate. Now we all know why this is. There's no denying that the extreme precautions ARE called for. Better safe than sorry, right? You may not enjoy stepping behind a machine that x-rays your entire body, hence exposing you to the world; but I guarantee you like it more that exploding in a commercial airliner or having your flight taken-over by terrorists with weapons. What happened on 911 always puts things into perspective. However, what I can't seem to fathom is the cost of air travel. What's the deal here? Why did it sky-rocket? Are the numerous airlines competing with the gas prices? We already have difficulty grappling with the cost of fuel for our vehicles. Therefore we definitely don't need air travel going up. Pretty soon there will be no reasonably priced way to travel. Bring back the inexpensive airfares!
I've spent plenty of hours on the web, searching high and low for inexpensive airfares. This is a tricky game, if you ask me. So much depends on when you seek your ticket. I was trying to fly my mother in for Easter break, but had plenty of trouble pinpointing a reasonable ticket. This is completely bizarre because I started my search three months in advance. I hit all the general discount websites found in cyberspace. If you pull up a decent search engine such as Google.com or Yahoo.com, and then punch in the terms "cheap tickets," you get all sorts of results. I started with Orbitz.com, then went to Priceline.com, then to Travelzoo.com, and to Cheaptickets.com and so on. The funny thing was that I couldn't find inexpensive airfares to save my life. So I waited a week, and then tried again. The prices went down a bit, and this encouraged me to wait longer. When it was about a month before Easter, I tried a final time and found inexpensive airfare. I reckon this was the ideal time.
Search like crazy! Try all the varying travel websites that offer airline tickets. They DO vary. I found one that wanted 488 for a roundtrip ticket, and then another that was asking 370 for the same flight times. Clearly these are different prices. You just have to do the essential web surfing.
