It wasn’t until my mom hit fifty years old that she started to go to church on a regular basis. We went when I was a child, but back then it was only once in a while, and because we moved around so much, we never really felt like we were a part of any church. I personally don’t go, though I do maintain my own relationship with God, and that to me is the important part. Each year for the last four years, my mother has requested that we get her the Holy Bible as a gift. It seems that she cannot find one that works well for her.
She needs a Holy Bible that is easy to read, and perhaps one that is made for a student. Though she has no problems understanding much of the Bible, she feels that there may be things that she is missing or is perhaps not understanding in the manner in which was intended. She had one student Holy Bible, but she found that it was still too confusing for her at some points. The lettering was also too small. She’s asked that if any of use can find one in larger print, and made for students, we should pick it up for her.
Though this is her request each year, none of us have been able to find a Holy Bible that fits her needs. My brothers and I look each year, and even look other times of the year, but we couldn’t find anything like she wants. Perhaps publishers of the Holy Bible think those who are students don’t need large print, or that those who need the large print are already well versed in what they Holy Bible has to say.
I do know that even though my search for the Holy Bible was fruitless, it is now at an end. My grandfather finally found what she was looking for. I’m not sure where he got it, but I think he went to a religious bookstore to find it, and I think he found it quite by accident. Since he found a version of the Holy Bible that she can read, she has been a much happier person. I am glad that she finally found something that gives her purpose when she has seemed lost for so long. She finds great comfort in her Bible, and that’s all that counts.
