General Electric Appliances - They're Everywhere For A Reason

By: Dylan Wilson

When I think of a General Electric appliance the kitchen immediately pops into my mind. However, this company offers many different products and you probably have a General Electric appliance in just about every one of your rooms. If not, you might at least have a light bulb created by this diverse organization.

The brand has stood the test of time, brining quality products into homes generation after generation. My grandmother swore that she wouldn’t use anything other than a General Electric appliance in her home and her descendants have followed suit. I guess that I really never needed to shop around because I knew that I was getting the best item for the money when I bought a General Electric appliance.

Kitchen appliances are the first things I think of when I picture a General Electric appliance. That is because my kitchen is filled with them. My larger pieces like my stove and fridge are made by the GE Company. Even smaller items like my toaster and blender are GE made.

However, I never really considered what other items are made by this company as well. That was, until I was talking on the telephone with my sister who was on her way to purchase her third cordless phone in less than two years. She wasn’t having much luck with the brands that she had purchased and she asked me what brand I used.

This was a valid question considering that I have been using the same phone for nearly a decade. Interestingly enough, I had no idea that it was a General Electric appliance at all. I just took my phone for granted. I guess this is normal since the item has never given me a moment’s trouble.

When I told my sister that the phone was a General Electric appliance she paused for a moment and said, “I had no idea that GE even made a phone.” Ironically, I had no idea either until I really looked at it. She was on her way to finding the same brand in cordless telephones as well.

It is easy to take things that work very well for granted. I have a General Electric appliance in nearly every room of my home but I usually associate the GE Company with the kitchen. I am starting to recognize the trademark on various appliances throughout my home. I even saw it on my light bulbs.
