Chenille Blankets For Babies

By: Dale Viviano

When a new baby arrives in the family all you want to do is wrap it up in a nice, warm soft blanket and cuddle with it. Chenille blankets are perfect for this and if you or someone you know is getting set to welcome a new arrival, one of these wraps is a must have. They are not only perfect for use with infants, but they are inexpensive and machine washable too.

If you happen to know the gender of the soon to arrive baby you can purchase items in either pink or blue. There are many different designs of chenille blankets in both these colors and some even come with a cute picture on them. Another great color choice in baby chenille blankets is white. Pale green or yellow is also appropriate for either sex.

Satin trim is usually found on the baby version of this popular blanket. The satin trim feels so gentle against the sensitive skin of the infant. You can find chenille blankets with trim that is the same shade as the blanket itself, or a contrasting shade, depending on personal preference.

Anyone who has already cared for a baby knows that you often have to change their clothes as well as their bedding. Babies tend to have accidents including spitting up after feedings. One of the nicest things about chenille blankets is that they can be washed right in the washing machine. Simply add a mild detergent and run the blanket through the gentle cycle. You don’t want to put chenille blankets in the dryer as this can cause them to shrink. If it does have the satin trim around the edge that can be ironed if need be, but the blanket itself should not come in contact with a hot iron.

In the case of a baby you should choose a size that is appropriate for them. They do range from quite small to large enough for a queen and king size bed. When it comes to chenille blankets for infants, the smallest size available is generally the most appropriate. As the baby matures into a toddler and graduates into a twin size bed, a new chenille blanket that is larger can then be used.

If taken care of you should expect one of these to last several years. Many adults who have keepsakes actually still have the same chenille blankets they used as children in a box. Just the softness and warmth of the blanket makes it a special and memorable item for many people. If you want to give someone who is expecting an heirloom, choose one of the chenille blankets that are available and you’ll give them a gift they’ll get lots of use out of and they’ll never forget the gesture.
