Book Summary - Learn About A Book At A Glance

By: Hunter Jones

Many don’t think about those who write the book summary on their favorite book much, but without this type of introduction to a story, no one would buy any book. This is almost more important than anything in the book, with the exception of the story. A really great cover might pull a few in, but without the summary, no one would know what the story was about, and it would be much more of a gamble to pick up the book and buy it. This essential part of any book is the reason that people buy or the reason they pass something up.

Though the book summary is not very long, it has to be that way. The consumer wants the quickest possible explanation about what is in that book so they can decide if they want to buy it or not. You have to give credit to those who can read a five hundred page book and write a single paragraph that is meant to tell the tale of what is inside while enticing someone to buy. If the book summary fails then the book fails. That is an awful lot of pressure, and takes writing just as creative as what is included in the book.

Most people don’t give much thought to the book summary, but if you ask them, they will admit that is what led them to buy that book. Unless someone has told them a certain book is good, they would have no way of knowing. The book summary should be very short, tell something about what is going to happen, and leave the reader wanting to know what will happen next. One type of this summary is on the back of some books, and will be for the whole book. Another type is a small section of chosen text from the story used to pull people in. Both are effective and many use both.

Now that many books are being sold online, the book summary is just as important as it once was. This is always listed with the books when they are found online, though the ones that are written for the Internet can be a little longer because they don’t have to fit on the back of a book. However, they should be quick and to the point just as the traditional kind. Though we have a short attention span when looking for a book in a bookstore, we have an even shorter one while online.
